The sole issuer of UK passports, issuing around 7 million passports and handling over 30 million papers each year. As part of its 2020 transformation programme, HMPO aimed to become a modern, digital business, helping customers to easily interact with them online.
We were asked to fully transform the passport application architecture. The platform had to be capable of handling straightforward applications like renewals, right through to complex cases like first-time applications or child passports.
The service also had to be delivered within challenging legacy contract exit deadlines, following GDS standards and meeting complex business requirements.
Above all the service had to:

• Continue providing a live service to issue passports
