Ops Revolution 2024

The mention of SecOps, MLOps, DataOps, FinOps, AnalyticsOps, and recently AIOps has become widespread. But, of course, it all started with DevOps.

DevOps represents a cultural and collaborative approach to software development and IT operations.

Development was and is the most popular discipline in all computer sciences, so no wonder that DevOps mainly focuses on software development.

Collaboration, Automation, Continuous Integration, Infrastructure as Code, and an overall holistic approach are the key principles of DevOps.

Along with everything else, the DevOps movement gave a push to the rise of generalists. The skills requirements for a DevOps role have become so extensive that it became a source of many jokes and memes on the internet.

A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.

With the ever-growing number of technologies, DevOps started branching from software development into other domains such as security, data engineering, analytics, machine learning, database administration, networking, and so on. This evolution gave birth to SecOps, DataOps, MLOps, FinOps, AIOps, and many other 'Meta'Ops.

The 3 main software development practices still unite all the Ops

  • Continues Integration

  • Continues Delivery

  • Infrastructure as Code

For each discipline, the implementation of practices will be different, but ultimately, they aim to create a reliable, version-controlled, and automated way of making changes. It doesn't matter if it's an AI model, database, financial report, or security configuration — it can and should be expressed as code, reviewed, tested, and deployed.

Let's try to predict what new 'Meta'Ops might grow in popularity in 2024:

  • AIOps is already a buzzword and will continue to grow.

  • PromptOps, another AI buzzword, is likely to fade when the initial AI bubble bursts.

  • LLMOps: MLOps for Large Language Models.

  • IOTOps: Internet of Things.

  • SmartOps: Smart homes and personal technology-focused.

  • SelfDrivingOps: ML and AI Ops for self-driving car technologies.

  • 6GOps: 6G adoption-related services Ops.

  • VROps: Virtual Reality-focused.

  • DNAOps: DNA and Biotech-specific technologies.

  • EcoOps: Clean Energy technologies and their adoption.

  • RPAOps: Robotic Process Automation.

  • QuantumOps: Quantum computing and all specific.

Let's stay tuned and focused to witness the unfolding of new and exciting innovations that 2024 will bring! Thank you for being part of our journey! Happy New Year everyone!
